Where it lives
On a TIE it opens with the letter E and a run of digits (for instance E00000000), printed on the front or the back of the card.
On a green EU certificate it shows up as the IXESP / C-number entry. Older A4 versions sometimes title it "Nº de soporte", tucked up near the top of the page.
Wherever it sits, you will reach for it online rather than at a counter, and AnchorLess arranges the digital certificate too if you are putting that side of things together from outside Spain.
What it does
It confirms your identity on digital services such as Cl@ve, the immigration portal and many Canary Islands administration sites. Leave it out and the online step simply will not complete.
